UP-PGH Celebrates Stroke Week

The Department of Neurosciences spearheaded the celebration of the National Stroke Awareness Week held annually on the third week of August. This year's events included activities targeted towards all members of the health team as well as patients and their caregivers.

August 22, 2017: Opening Ceremonies, Lay Forum

BE FAST, the updated acronym from the American Stroke Association about stroke warning signs. Balance, Eyes, Face, Arms, Speech, Time!

Dr. Maria Epifania Collantes, president of the Stroke Society of the Philippines and adviser of this year's Stroke Week activities, along with the PGH Medical Director, Dr. Gerardo Legaspi, officially open the weeklong festivities.

A lay forum was conducted outside the Neurosciences OPD clinic at rm 132A.

August 25, 2017 AM: Stroke Prevention is Better than Cure

Services included free blood pressure, weight, waist-hip ratio, and blood glucose measurement. Participants were also given BP diaries to help them in their monitoring.

Prevention is better than cure. Filipinos have a risk towards having hypertension and diabetes, which could lead to stroke. Get yourself checked now!
